Digital Arts Lecture Series to kick off at NCKU - Noodls
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Institute of Creative Industries Design (ICID) has invited UK-based transcultural curator Rachel Marsden to give a lecture titled "Curating the Third Space: Online & Digital Arts Today" on September 16. With Rachel Marsden's lecture, the ICID's Lecture Series for Introduction to New Media and Digital Arts will kick off 3:00-5:00pm, Wednesday, September 16, at ICID Room 5153. This lecture examines the virtual environment of the "third space" through the curation of online and digital contemporary arts. "Third spaces" host the regular, voluntary, informal, spontaneous and planned gatherings of individuals, now existing digitally and online through virtual environments, according to Marsden. Through technological diffusion, "third spaces" are now a fundamental part of contemporary art, and curatorial practice today, crossing further borders into science, technology and innovation. Marsden said, "by looking at the work of local to international galleries, exhibitions and projects, artists and designers, social media and online platforms, I will present examples of "third spaces", key in constructing communities to actively immerse participants in reflecting on their local socio-cultural cues in global contexts - a community of hybridity - creating a forum between the real and virtual, virtual and real." Rachel Marsden is a transcultural curator, art consultant, PhD researcher, arts educator, arts writer and avid blogger specialising in Chinese contemporary arts, (self-)publishing, and interpretive translation based in the United Kingdom.
