2015 Crouching Tiger program closing ceremony at NCKU
Tainan, Taiwan, August 24, 2015
A closing ceremony was held at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, on August 14 with students from many countries as far as Poland, Italy, Paraguay, Mexico, the United States, Gambia, and Burkina Faso to display their talent and skill necessary to operate in an international firm.
Prof. Ed Hsu from Institute of International Management (IIMBA) on behalf of Director Dr. Victor Chen, gave his opening remark and said, on Day One, I had the privilege to welcome you, and was impressed by the excitement and entrepreneurial spirits that you all demonstrated.
“I saw you all collaborated intensively, working long and hard to complete many of the project assignments,” Hsu said.
I also witnessed that you all enjoyed outings and field trips while visiting companies to become well informed of recent industry developments in Taiwan, he added.
This is our first year for the Program and there is room for improvement, according to Hsu who also appreciated those participants providing feedback that was very instrumental.
Also in attendance were representatives of several prospective future participatory companies, who all showed signs of significant interest and positive feedback regarding both the goals of the program as well as the overall involvement of the student body at large.
The ceremony’s esteemed guests included Professor Ching-Min Chen, the director of the Internationalization Information and Service Division, Mr. Samuel Wang, Taiwan’s UL Engineering Department Director, as well as Mr. Steve Yeng, a manager at Sunway System’s Department of Technology.
The program serves as a medium for developing and manifesting these talents and skills in an environment built to breed the type of international mind for which such worldwide firms seek.
NCKU had acquired sponsorship and participation from an array of companies throughout the country. Participating companies in this year’s curriculum included Tainan-based SportsArt, and Taisuco (Taiwan Sugar), as well as Kuang Tai, Hermin Textile, PWC, Advantech, and Gestream, companies situated along the west coast of the island from Taipei to Kaohsiung.
Over the course of the intensive four-week course, these cooperating companies sent representatives who came to NCKU and offered invaluable insight into the world of their respective companies and the industry in which they operate, with particular focus upon the goings on of international business.
In addition to the on-campus lectures, the participating student body was invited to join on-site tours of the collaborating company grounds, including a few additional tours.
The students all had their chance to ‘pitch’ a potential marketing plan of each of the 7 collaborating companies and none failed to impress.
