Deputy Mayor Roland Blum of Marseille, France, recently visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, and met the faculty members of planning and design to facilitate better understanding and more international cooperation.

Blum was accompanied by dean of the College of Planning and Design Prof. Fong-Gong Wu, former dean Prof. Feng-Tyan Lin, chairperson of the Department of Urban Planning Prof. Shiann-Far Kung, and Prof. Ju-Ping Yeh to visit the university.

We’d like to express our gratitude to Blum for his arrangement of our 15-students’ visit in Marseille in July, according to Kung.

A day visit to our beautiful campus and meet with people here will help us to gain further mutual understanding, Kung added.

At the invitation of Kaohsiung City Government, Marseille Deputy Roland Blum had participated in the 2015 International Harbor Cities Conference in Kaohsiung, from August 13 to 15.

After the conference, Kung invited Blum to see NCKU. Accompanied by the faculty members in NCKU Blum had a campus tour and visited NCKU Museum where many treasures are housed to give an interesting insight into some of the scholarly activities, both past and present, of the university's academics.

Aix-Marseille University (AMU) is the largest university in the French-speaking world after recent merger of the University of Provence, the University of the Mediterranean and Paul Cézanne University, according to Blum.

Knowing that one of strengths of NCKU in bio-medical research, Blum said, AMU and NCKU have great potential in further academic collaboration in the field of medicine and biochemistry.
