AIT Youth Camp kicks off at NCKU - Noodls

A youth camp organized by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) was held at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, July 24- 26, with a total of 35 students from Taiwan, and 15 from Hong Kong and Macau. Prof. Pao-Shan Yu, Dean of NCKU College of Engineering, extended his warm welcome to all the participants and guests from AIT at the opening ceremony on the morning of July 24. Dean Yu said, interactive panels led by AIT officers and US exchange program alumni, volunteering and leadership activities, as well as cultural and historical site exploration in Tainan will be included in the three-day camp. AIT Cultural Affairs Officer Alys Spensley said, in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General Hong Kong & Macau and National Cheng Kung University, the American Institute in Taiwan launched its third annual Youth Camp. This year's camp focuses on volunteerism, creativity & innovation, social inclusion, and leadership, according to Spensley. Participants will learn about the development of social enterprises in Taiwan, Hong Kong and other nations as well as minority empowerment through innovation and social policies, Spensley added. Also, participants will have the opportunity to visit the Ten Drum Cultural Village in Tainan, an example of a social enterprise, and the city's Confucius Temple to learn about Taiwan's history. Volunteer activities in the Yin Tung community, which comprises many elderly people and is undergoing a revitalization project supported by the public and private sectors, are also on the program.
