db.BootCamp 2015 kicks off at NCKU-Business Wire
A workshop on creative design thinking is currently taking place at the Institute of Creative Industry Design (ICID), National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in southern Taiwan. The 7-day workshop consisting of both theory and practical sessions is being conducted by professors, designers, and entrepreneurs.
The workshop, db.BootCamp, featuring design and business thinking will equip the students with practical-based courses and opportunities to co-work with the people in the business.
More than 30 students are participating in the workshop, including students from Tokyo University in Japan, and Shantou University in China.
A total of three companies representing the life industry in Taiwan - Strauss (有情門), Hermin (和明紡織), and Lichen (捷利國際餐飲) - are involving in the courses and coaching. They are interested in either new marketing strategy or new service system to reach more customers.
The students are divided into three groups accordingly to explore the transformation of traditional industries when facing the challenges of globalization.
Home life, food culture and contemporary life style are also investigated in the workshop.
“Cooperating with real companies is good for the students. They deal with real problems and they go to the sites to see what they can do for the clients,” said Elissa Huang, one of the organizers and coaches.
“The students have to identify the facts first and then give out some ideas, crazy ones or practical ones. Later, they narrow down the ideas through team discussion,” Huang added.
The BootCamp was initiated by the ICID, NCKU, in 2014, as the first program of db school, according to ICID Director Prof. Shuenn-Ren Liou.
He said, “In db school, we’d like to combine the resources from the college of design and the college of business and bridge the industry and education from business insight to innovation.”
With the help from the tutors, the students investigate into the business and apply not only design thinking but business thinking to integrate mindset, talents and resources in solving the problems.
On the last day of BootCamp, July 18, students will present their projects to the entrepreneurs.
