NCKU hosts its first international conference on interdisciplinary dialogue

The first International Conference on Interdisciplinary Dialogue: Creative Misleading and Evolving Paradigms kicked off today at the Department of Chinese Literature, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, with experts and scholars from Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan.

The one-day conference was organized by the College of Liberal Arts and the Department of Chinese Literature.

NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su hosted the opening ceremony and extended a warm welcome to all the guests. She said, NCKU is a research-led comprehensive university with a high reputation in engineering and a growing focus on humanities.

She also noted, NCKU College of Liberal Arts is made up of the Departments of Chinese Literature, Foreign Languages and Literature and History and with their interdisciplinary efforts the conference will function as a platform of international exchange in the field of liberal arts.

Dean Wei-Yung Wang said, the College of Liberal Arts distinguishes itself as the leading college in NCKU to promote the spirit of the humanities and international education.

A total of 14 papers were presented in the conference.

The first speaker is Professor Park, Young-hwan from Dongguk University, Korea, who investigated into the subjectivity of Eastern Asia by analyzing Korean pop cultural phenomenon.

Professor Shu-Li Chang from the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature, NCKU, presented her research on Michael Chabon’s 2007 counterfactual fiction, The Yiddish Policemen’s Union.

Professor De-Yu Shih from the Institute of Art Studies, NCKU, talked about the history and development of Chinese music in the afternoon section.
