NCKU hosts groundbreaking ceremony of new swimming pool and gymnasium - Noodls
The new swimming pool and gymnasium at Sheng-Li Campus of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan is currently under construction, the university revealed recently.
NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su hosted the groundbreaking ceremony on May 6.
NCKU Vice President of General Affairs, Chyan-Deng Jan, Associate Vice President of General Affairs, Ming-He Du, Associate Vice President, Ju Ming Wang, Head of Physical Education Office, Linda L. Lin, and many other faculty members attended the ceremony as well.
According to President Su, the students and teachers of NCKU have long anticipated the construction, and are honored to witness the historical moment.
The construction consists of one floor underground and five floors above, with a total area of 2180 square footage. The gym is considered a breakthrough for athletes and students who love to exercise, said Su.
She also mentioned that she has joined the students in Chung-Cheng Hall for volleyball practice many times. She realized that the fact that students often have to wait until nine or ten at night for a sports field.
She expects the construction to go well and improve the present condition of lack of teaching spaces. She also demanded high quality of pollution prevention and safety issues, which gained the praise of neighboring residents.
The site of the construction is located in the Sheng-Li Campus, near the area of student dormitories, east to Sheng-Li Road, south to Zenda Suites, and north to Tainan First Senior High School.
The base is located at the present-existing swimming pool, which will become a gymnasium consisted of the new swimming pool and ball courts.
The total fund is 210 million NT dollars and the construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
