NCKU research center of orchid held alliance meeting - Noodls
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Research Center of Orchid in Tainan, Taiwan, held a meeting on May 7, announcing the establishment of "Orchid Biotechnology and Cultural and Creative Industry Alliance" and calling for local industries to join the alliance as well.
NCKU Research Center of Orchid has been devoted to orchid research for years and successfully developed several items of orchid products including facial care, cosmetics and perfume. Additionally an orchid wine was introduced in early February.
NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su hosted the meeting and said, Universities can function as a platform for knowledge and engaging in academic-industry collaboration.
President Su also said, NCKU will cooperate with Tainan City Government to help local orchid industry find its niche in European markets, and commercializing orchid products in the Czech Republic will be the first step.
NCKU Distinguished Professor Dr. Hong-Hwa Chen from the Department of Life Sciences who is also the director of NCKU Research Center of Orchid, pointed out the main purpose of the meeting is to potential industries to join the alliance, together boosting the development of orchid industry in Taiwan.
The president of tea cultural promoting council, Zhi-Cheng Zeng, the manager of Zenda Suites, Yu-Jie Xie, and all the other famous beverage dealers had partaken in the meeting.
NCKU Research Center of Orchid led by Professor Chen from the Department of Life Sciences in cooperation with faculty from National Taiwan University and experts on agricultural research and extension station have successfully boosted the Orchid Industry with the Phalaenopsis biotechnological research over ten years.
In 2013, NCKU Research Center of Orchid had developed several items of orchid products including facial care, cosmetics and perfume, pioneering orchid biotechnology products. Also, it had launched Taiwan's first orchid wine and cultural commodities such as orchid necklace and bookmarker in 2014.
