NCKU student athletes strive for representation in 2015 Summer Universiade - Noodls

Yu-En Tsai and Chia-Jung Huang, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) first-term student athletes, are striving for representation in 2015 Summer Universiade. Since the enrollment in Department of History last year, they have successfully stroke a balance between study and Taekwondo.

NCKU President Huey-Jen Jenny Su met Tsai and Huang recently in president’s office and praised them for sparing no efforts on practicing Taekwondo as well as schoolwork.

President Su also encouraged the students to enjoy the cultural and historic atmosphere of the campus, learn broadly, and apply the spirit of learning to athletic field.

Physical Education Officer Director Li-Chuan Lin recognizes the students’ outstanding performance and promise to guide them well in sport.

Heng-An Chen, a professor of history in NCKU, said, it is a hard job for many well-performed athletes of Southern Taiwan to study in other cities; therefore, the department is willing to take good care of student athletes.

The department head Yu-Nu Chen acknowledged their positive attitudes toward learning and said teachers will give them special care so as to make them be versed in both study and sports.

Tsai with the extraordinary records of winning the mixed-double first prize in 2013 World Taekwondo Championships was able to enroll in other university’s sport-related departments, but in order to learn broadly, she enrolled in the Department of History.

Huang was also able to enroll in other university’s sport-related departments, but with the will to study in different fields, she enrolled in NCKU instead.

Both of them are proud to be the first student athletes of NCKU and are grateful to teachers’ supports. The selection of 2015 Summer Universiade will be held in May.
