Taiwan Innovative Unmanned Aircraft Design will be hosted in Tainan City, Jiangjyun District, Southwest Coast National Scenic Area, May 16- 17.

In addition to the competition, National Chung-Shang Institute of Science and Technology and Aero Modeling Association are invited to exhibit their unmanned aircrafts.

Moreover, instruction in paper airplane and electric airplane will be given to any person who has great interests in air activities.

The chairman of Taiwan Innovative Unmanned Aircraft Design Competition, Professor Wei-Hsiang Lai from the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at National Cheng Kung University, is excited to see the competition being held in Tainan.

He hopes that more related activities can be hosted in Tainan in the future for making Tainan a better learning environment for the study of aeronautics and astronautics.

According to Professor Lai, Tainan City has been playing an important role in Aeronautics and Astronautics. Tainan had a well-established airport as early as the time of World War II. During the Vietnam War, Tainan even acted as the essential supplement station for the US military.

Aeronautics and Astronautics is a significant field within technology. Unmanned aircraft is not only the subject suitable for integration studies, but it is also the important field of future development in Aeronautics and Astronautics. Aeronautics and Astronautics combines the values of military, public affairs, and business.

The minister of Southwest Coast National Scenic Area, Jung-Feng Cheng, said, “At NCKU, there is a department of Aeronautics and Astronautics; at National Tainan Industrial High School, there is an Airplane Maintenance Department. Students need a place for practicing. Besides, Southwest Coast National Scenic Area is a rather suitable venue. In the past 8 years, the competition was held sequentially in Pingtung. I hope that, begin from this year, the competition can be hosted in Tainan in order to help foster talented students in this field.”

Unmanned aircraft design is system engineering. Taiwan Innovative Unmanned Aircraft Design provides the opportunity for students to apply theoretical learning to practical operation. Also, it offers students the chance for integration studies as well as in-depth learning. The competition draws a lot of attention each year, said Professor Lai.

2015 Taiwan Innovative Unmanned Aircraft Design Competition is a carnival that associates the competition of unmanned aircraft and radio-controlled (model) aircraft with the general science education in Aeronautics and Astronautics. In regards to the general science education, a ‘center of future education ‘will be set up at the competition venue to promote dynamics-related knowledge.

2015 Taiwan Innovative Unmanned Aircraft Design Competition will take place at Jiangjyun District, Tainan City, May 16-17, from 8 am to 5 pm. 500 mini launch gliders are to be distributed to people who participated in all the games.
