Tim Berge from ICRT gives a talk to NCKU students - Noodls
General Manager of International Community Radio Taipei (ICRT) Tim Berge visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, on March 30. Invited by the University News Center, Berge gave a talk to students on the operations of ICRT and further shared his working life as a professional radio broadcaster.
According to Berge, ICRT has been playing an important role in Taiwan based on the fact that it is a radio station situated between commercial broadcaster and public broadcaster. ICRT provides balanced Taiwanese and International news in real time.
"In the old days, ICRT acted as the bridge between Taiwanese community and international community. Now, ICRT focuses more on English learning and entertainment. Radio still plays an important role in people's daily life," said Berge.
In addition, Tim introduced students several key points for writing a good piece of radio news script.
He mentioned that it is important to keep the script concise in radio, so that the anchor can read it easily and the listeners can get the points quickly. He shortened the key points into "KISS" which stands for 'keep it simple, stupid.'
Tim had the students paired up and practice writing a piece of radio script right away by introducing their partners.
With his humor and bright characteristics, Berge successfully caught every student's attention.
Berge, who has been living in Taiwan for over 20 years, hails from Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. He joined ICRT in late 1990 for doing bilingual traffic reports. Currently, he is the General Manager of ICRT. Under his guidance, ICRT has diversified its service, from mobile app to online videos.
On April 16, ICRT will be celebrating its 36th anniversary, according to Tim.
