NCKU hosts groundbreaking ceremony for new science building - Noodls
Tainan, Taiwan, March 26, 2015
The groundbreaking ceremony of the Sciences Teaching Building was held on March 17, at Cheng Kung campus of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan.
NCKU President Jenny Huey-Jen Su hosted the grand ceremony, which was attended by Dean of College of Medicine, Jang-Yang Chang, Dean of College of Sciences, Wen-Fong Ke, Associate Dean of College of Sciences, Shu-Hui Chen, Distinguished Professor of Department of Physics, Andy Y.G. Fuh, Dean of College of Liberal Arts, Wei-Yung Wang, Associate Dean of General Affairs, Ming-Her Duh and many others.
According to President Su, the government provided 390 million dollars. The remaining 485 million came from the NCKU school fund.
She also expressed her gratitude for the attributions of previous presidents who strived to bring NCKU its role today.
In addition, the Department of Chemistry expects to raise 30 million dollars from alumni for the expansion of ninth floor in the future for teaching research purposes.
The Sciences Teaching building, located in the Cheng-Kung campus, near Shengli Rd. and Xiadong Rd., sits in the center starting with the Main Library, extending towards the College of Liberal Arts.
The building, estimated area of thirty thousand square meters in total, consists of two underground stories and eight stories above, is certified with silver level of Green Building Mark and Intelligent Building Mark.
The construction is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2017. The blueprint shows three major areas, including the common teaching area, administrative space, and research spaces.
