NCKU professor named fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science

Academician Dr. Cheng-Ming Chuong who is currently a visiting Chair Professor at the Institute of Clinic Medicine of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, was named a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

AAAS members are selected by a committee of their peers. Dr. Chuong was recognized for his contributions to the fields of stem cell and regeneration research.

Dr. Chuong’s research focuses on morphogenesis and some of his recent research studied the cellular and molecular basis of complex pigment patterns in bird feathers to understand how stem cells become organized into particular tissue patterns and shapes.

Recent research by Dr. Chuong involves the cellular and molecular basis of complex pigment patterns in bird feathers.

The award was formally announced in the association’s News & Notes section of the journal Science on Nov. 28.

The tradition of AAAS fellows began in 1874. Members can be considered for the rank if nominated by the steering groups of the association’s 24 sections or by any three fellows who are current AAAS members or by the AAAS chief executive officer.

Fellows must have been continuous AAAS members for four years by the end of the calendar year in which they are elected. 



Each steering group reviews the nominations of individuals within its respective section and a final list is forwarded to the AAAS Council, which votes on the aggregate list.
