National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, held a matchmaking event at the Department of Systems and Naval Mechatronic Engineering on December 15 to promote green technology.

A total of 16 presentations took place in the event with more than 50 companies joining together to seek potential opportunities or cooperation.

NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung extended his warm welcome to the representatives from Hsinchu Science Park, Central Taiwan Science Park and Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) who attended the opening ceremony.

President Hwung said that according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings in 2013, NCKU achieved 100 points in the “Industry Income” score and is ranked top in this respect.

He also said that energy innovation is a pressing issue and instead of spending time in exploring new energy, developing technologies in saving energy may be more profitable in the long run.

In recent years, STSP had held several matchmaking events which provided an exchange platform for academia-industry collaboration, according to STSP Administrative bureau chief Chun-Wei Chen.

He expected the matchmaking will bring out profitable results which will lead to manufacturing in STSP.

NCKU has set up the Cheng-Kung Club in 2012 to further expand R&D capability and strengthen academia-industry line-up. A total of four matchmaking events are held with the alliance of club members.
