NCKU, CKM Building Material collaboration leads to new innovation
Tainan, Taiwan, December 13, 2014
CKM Building Material Corporation has cooperated with a research team led by Rong-Ping Lai from Department of Architecture of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, to develop novel soundproofing green building material, the university revealed recently.
The new material is non-toxic, damp-proofing and durable, said Prof. Lai at a recent result show.
He also said that the invention has been recognized by Taiwan Green Building Council with high-performance green mark and gained a National Invention and Creation Award.
NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung congratulated the team on their success and said that collaboration with industry is a necessary step toward bringing academic research out of the laboratory and into the real world to make contribution to our society.
The invention of soundproofing green building material presented by NCKU and CKM features its effectiveness and environmental friendliness.
According to Prof. Lai, in the past, materials used for acoustic panel mildew or inflame easily, but the material we presented has eliminated these problems.
By reducing the size of holes on the acoustic panel, the effectiveness of acoustic panel produced by CKM is improved and the possible pollutants created by the panel are prevented.
According to President Hwung, most Taiwan-based companies are in small scale that does not own enough resources for research and development. In light of this, industry-university collaborations are valuable for companies to improve product quality and competitiveness.
NCKU has abundant supply of research energy and has been ranked among world’s best universities in academia-industry collaboration.
Besides, CKM Building Material Corporation, corporations such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) and DELTA Electronics have benefited from collaborations with NCKU, Prof. Hung revealed.
