NCKU to host Taiwan-EU symposium on ocean observation

Tainan, Taiwan, November 3, 2014

Taiwan-EU Symposium on Ocean Observation and Its Applications will take place November 4-5 at the 3rd Lecture Room of International Conference Hall, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, the university revealed.

NCKU has invited experts and scholars from the world including Germany, Norway, Denmark, England, Italy, Poland, Belgium, France, Spain, and the United States to represent their latest findings regarding marine observation and its applications, according to Dr. Pao-Shan Yu, Dean of College of Engineering.

International renowned experts including Dr. Chung-Chu Teng from NOAA Center for Operational Oceanographic Product & Services, U.S.A, Dr. Friedwart Ziemer from Helmholtz Centre for Materials and Coastal Research, Germany, and Dr. Heinz Gnther from Helmholtz Centre for Materials and Coastal Research, Germany will participate in the conference.

The main topics of the symposium includes Ocean observation technologies, Ocean observation and its applications, Remote sensing and field monitoring, Ocean wave modeling, and Coastal hydrodynamic modeling and experiment.

The development and application of ocean monitoring technology relevant to disaster prevention and mitigation particularly will be the focus of the discussion.

The scientists from Taiwan and the EU will gather at NCKU in the two-day conference to share knowledge and experiences on ocean observation, modeling and their applications.
