NCKU hosts GCBME 2014‐APCMBE 2014
Tainan, Taiwan, October 13, 2014
The Global Conference on Biomedical Engineering 2014 (GCBME 2014) in conjunction with the 9th Asian‐Pacific Conference on Medical and Biological Engineering (APCMBE 2014) is held at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, October 9‐12.
At the opening ceremony on October 9, Dr. Huey-Jen Jenny Su, Executive Vice President of NCKU on behalf of NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung extended her welcome to the participants.
She said, “our institute for medical engineering was housed inside the medical center from day one when it was first established in 1988.”
NCKU set up the Medical Device Innovation Center (MDIC) to facilitate the development of South Taiwan Medical Device Industry Cluster and to become a successful global leader in medical device innovation initiative, according to Dr. Su.
Dr. Fong‐Chin Su, the Congress President, said, Biomedical Engineering Innovation‐Transforming the Future is the general theme of the conference.
Prof. dr. sc. Ratko Magjarevic, president of International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE), said that his mission is to promote biomedical engineering and to promote international cooperation.
He pointed out that the aim of IFMBE is primarily to formulate the health policy from the technology point of view.
“Our partners in this very important job actually include international organization like the WHO, the developer of health organization and other policy makers,” Magjarevic added.
GCBME 2014‐APCMBE 2014 is a great opportunity for an exchange of ideas and knowledge of the latest research and developments in all areas within the field of biomedical engineering, according to Dr. Su.
Dr. Kai‐Nan An from Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, USA gave an opening lecture on Biomechanics: the Past and Future on October 9.
Dr. Ratko Magjarevic from University of Zagreb, Croatia, Dr. Herbert F. Voigt from Boston University, USA, and Dr. James Cho‐Hong GOH, National University of Singapore also delivered plenary lectures.
