NCKU hosts ISMEN 2014 to catalyze advances in materials research - CNA
(中央社訊息服務20140916 17:39:05)The International Symposium on Materials for Enabling Nanodevices 2014 (ISMEN 2014) took place at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, September 3-5, with more than a hundred international scholars.
The symposium is organized by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at NCKU and supported by Department of Materials Science and Engineering,
University of California at Los Angeles, USA, Applied Materials, Inc., Ministry of Science and Technology, and Ministry of Economic Affairs.
NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung extended his warm welcome to the guests and said at the opening ceremony that materials science contributes to improvements in our daily lives through innovation of new materials.
He also said, through the symposium, the scholars in Taiwan have an extensive discussion with international experts which is expecting to advance materials science development in Taiwan has entered higher realms.
ISMEN2014 has provided an interdisciplinary forum for the advances in materials science and research for enabling nanodevices, according to the Conference Chair of ISMEN 2014 Dr. Weng-Sing Hwang.
Dr Hwang who is also a professor from NCKU Department of Materials Science and Engineering noted, one recent result of materials research are nanodevices.
He explained, ISMEN is mainly addressed to the application of nanomaterials, including mobile phones, electro-optical products, information and communication products, medical care or medical equipment, and so on.
The symposium has offered materials researchers the opportunity to discuss the frontiers in their fields and network with scientists from various other research areas for potential interdisciplinary collaborations.
This conference series was established to expose opportunities and challenges in the various fields of nanostructured materials, and to help catalyze advances in the discipline.
