NCKU-Fulbright MoU to recruit American student for master degree
Tainan, Taiwan, September 12, 2014
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, held a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NCKU and Foundation for Scholarly Exchange (FSE), Fulbright Taiwan, on September 12 to provide grant support for American MA students at NCKU.
The MoU was signed by Dr. William Vocke, Executive Director of the FSE, Fulbright Taiwan, and Dr. Cheng-Hung Huang, Vice President for International Affairs, NCKU.
“We’re hoping to be able to recruit high quality American students to join this program,” Dr. Vocke revealed at the ceremony.
The Fulbright MA Degree Program at NCKU grantees are expected to understand and support this mission and to foster the exchange of ideas between Americans and Taiwanese.
Dr. Vocke also said, “Fulbright will provide certain financial support and NCKU will provide tuition and housing support so it ends up being a win-win for both of us.”
“This is our first Fulbright degree program with major Taiwanese university,” according to Dr. Vocke, “and we’re hoping it opens up studying in Taiwan to Americans who perhaps not thought about it before.”
He noted, “We’re also hoping that we’re going to get some wonderful students in America, some of American best universities thinking about doing English-speaking master program in Taiwan.”
With the MoU, NCKU and FSE together offer a grant to support one American student each year for MA study and research in the Institutes of Creative Industries Design (ICID) at NCKU.
“The program in ICID is one of the best in Taiwan,” said Dr. Vocke who added that creativity and innovation are very important topic right now not only in Taiwan but in the United States.
The grant is scheduled to be offered each year over a four-year period from 2015 to 2019.
