International students at NCKU have fun learning Chinese - CNA
(中央社訊息服務20140814 17:25:45)Approximately 300 international students from more than 50 countries, including Japan, Korea, Germany, England, France, Austria, and the United States participated in “你說我猜” - a Chinese phrases guessing contest - held by Chinese Language Center (CLC) of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, from August 11-15.
The activity is held regularly displaying its efforts of Chinese language teaching and the learning outcomes of the foreign students at NCKU.
Brock Morningstar from the states likes the Chinese program at NCKU so far and finds the courses are very helpful. He has participated in the competition with his teammates and they did well.
The activity gets us up in front of lots of unknown faces, said Brock, and you have to be not afraid of using Chinese to communicate with each other.
I think it helps us better at public speaking with Chinese, Brock said.
NCKU CLC Director Rong-Fu Wu commented, though leaning Chinese for such a short period of time at NCKU, most of the students are able to communicate in Chinese with ease and experience the real life in Taiwan.
Exerting not only the ability of communication in Chinese but the strength of team work, the participants have performed their best on the stage displaying what they have learned here, Wu added.
Fiona Altmann, a law student from Austria, who learns Chinese at NCKU for only few weeks said, “It’s a good idea to get people into speaking but I’m a totally beginner so for me it’s quite intense here.”
She also said, “The teachers are very nice. They speak slowly and repeat everything and they make it more comfortable for us to speak Chinese here.”
Fiona is happy to participate in the activity and she hopes not to get embarrassed at speaking Chinese on stage.
The activity will end on August 15 and the winning team will be awarded a prize to recognize their excellence in Chinese learning.
