NCDR, NCKU sign cooperative agreement to for disaster prevention technology research - Noodls

The National Science and Technology Center for Disaster Reduction (NCDR) and National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, signed a cooperative agreement at a recent press conference at NCKU.

Under the agreement, both parties will cooperate in developing technologies for disaster mitigation and prevention.

NCDR Director Hongey Chen and NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung signed the agreement on behalf of the both institutes.

Taiwan has beautiful natural environment and abundant natural resources. With its unique location, Taiwan also suffers a lot of natural disasters, according to Hwung.

He also said, the necessary measures to mitigate and prevent disasters are vital in Taiwan.

NCKU has its own Disaster Prevention Research Center (DPRC) which is established with the purpose of improving the technology and countermeasures of disaster prevention, and also study a suitable technical code for disaster prevention and rescue with specialists and researchers.

To integrate Industry-Government-Academia capabilities in disaster preventions and responses, NCDR coordinates and collaborates with governmental sectors for planning, organizing and promoting technology innovation, providing a platform of information service and technology integration.

NCDR will offer internship opportunities for the students in NCKU for a period of practical experience relating to disaster prevention.

The experience will be valuable to students as a means of allowing them to experience how their studies are applied in the real world.
