The TUSA Summer Scholarship Program set to kick off at NCKU - Noodls
A total of 40 students from top universities in the United States will come to National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, to join the Taiwan-United States Sister Relations Alliance (TUSA) Summer Scholarship Program for eight weeks.
An opening ceremony will take place at NCKU on July 1 to welcome the American students who are representing their state as well as the United States, acting as ambassadors to Taiwan.
NCKU is officially ranked as one of Taiwan's top two universities. It has a renowned Mandarin Chinese Learning Center with extensive experience running summer programs.
To create closer friendships and understanding between the people of the United States and the people of Taiwan, the 40 students from the states will participate in a series of Mandarin (Chinese) language class, cultural learning, cultural tours, and lectures.
Upon returning to the United States, students will be expected to act as ambassadors of good will for both the United States and Taiwan whenever the opportunity presents itself.
NCKU is located in Tainan, an ancient city full of cultural richness and a favorite city for visiting TUSA students in years past.
Allison Gray, a journalism student from the University of Maryland who participated in the 2013 program wrote about her "awesome" experience at NCKU from Day one.
"I didn't expect a scholarship to provide so many different opportunities. Most scholarships provide you money but this scholarship provides you friends, new experience, and new language. I think it's much more valuable than just money," according to Gray.
