To promote the mobile-learning scheme for elementary and junior high school, the Ministry of Education (MOE) organized an event, the “Mobile-Learning Experience Sharing and Exchange,” which took place on June 4 at the Cheng-Hsin Hall, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan.

The theme for the meeting is “Innovative Change, Problem Solving, and Physical and Mental Health”, and was attended by experts in the field of digital learning, alongside elementary and junior high school principals and teachers from across the country.

All of the gathered personnel shared their experiences, contributing to the blueprint for future high quality education in Taiwan.

NCKU President Hwung Hwung-Hweng welcomed the presidents and teachers from the varied institutes, and expressed his support of mobile-learning as a major advocate in promoting 21st century learning.

He also noted that, through interaction with students, those in attendance seek to actively show students what ‘real learning’ is, taking full responsibility of functional education.

The Deputy Mayor of Tainan City Her-Jiun Sheu who also attended the event said, the most important aspect of educational resources is that of software.

Through the combined efforts of everyone, software programs may be better developed and utilized to boost overall learning, and that mobile-learning will bring about a better future, according to Sheu.

Stephen J. H. Yang, Director of Information and Technology Department, MOE, said that each person in attendance is contributing to the worthy cause of the “successful education of the talents of the world.”

Professor Ya-Ting Yang of the NCKU Institute of Education presented the “Implementation Status of the Mobile-Learning Promotion Plan,” pointing out that every innovative action is sure to meet some sort of dilemma, yet we never lack in answers, but in ‘courage’, urging us to tackle problems with a positive mindset.

She further emphasizes the aims of grooming students to possess the 5C key capabilities: collaboration, creativity, competence, communication and critical thinking.

As it is believed that improving the standard of teachers will make it easier for these key qualities to be conveyed, there have been 10 teacher professional development workshops planned – of which 3 have already taken place – to raise the quality of teaching staff.

Additionally, the meeting also consisted of 3 keynote speeches, on the topics of ‘Global Trend of Mobile-Learning’ by Director Hung of CommonWealth magazine, ‘Complementary Measures for Physical and Mental Health’ by NCKU medical professionals and ‘Practice of Innovative Technology Arts’, all of which emphasize the spirit of “adhere to you original goals, and never give up.”
