Vietnamese cultural week to kick off at NCKU - PChome Online
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, will host its annual Vietnamese Cultural Week on May 3, and to advertise, several costume-clad Vietnamese women danced in front of the NCKU Yun-Ping Building recently.
This year’s theme is “Love of the Four Seasons (戀戀四季)”, and the two-day event will include an artifact exhibition, food tasting, traditional folk games and a grand gala, aiming to introduce Taiwanese students and the general public to the beauty of Vietnamese culture.
According to the event organizer, Huang-Yen Ruan, the Vietnamese Cultural Week has increased in popularity over the years, and its aim is to not only promote traditional Vietnamese culture, but to also allow all the Vietnamese people living, learning and working in Taiwan an opportunity to gather together.
On May 3, the grand opening ceremony of the Vietnamese Cultural Week will take place at 8 o’clock, in front of the NCKU Student Center, followed by exhibitions of Vietnamese audio-visuals and cultural artifacts.
Vietnamese monuments, daily routines and cultural festivals will also be introduced, along with traditional musical instruments, handicrafts,Đong Hồ folk woodcut paintings and traditional clothing.
This year, traditional folk games have also been specially arranged, including ‘walk on stilts’, ‘tinikling’ dance and many more.
Originating from the traditional country populace, these games not only add a unique spirit to the traditional Vietnamese culture, but are also easy and inexpensive. As such, the games are suited for everyone, and the ease in finding the utensils needed, allows that the games can be played anywhere.
Traditional cuisine are also on offer, and the sweet aroma of Vietnamese dishes such as rice noodle, spring rolls, dumplings, Vietnamese bread, as well as authentic Vietnamese coffee, is sure to attract crowds, allowing them to better understand Vietnam.
In addition to food and games, there will be an employment seminar on the 4th, which invites students to interact will both Vietnamese students and Taiwanese companies that have investments in Vietnam.
The grand finale is the cultural gala at 19:00 on the May 4, which will take place in the Cheng-Kung Hall.
The event will showcase the essence of Vietnamese culture, with a variety of 15 performances, ranging from traditional song and dance to dramas, and is sure to become the highlight of the Vietnamese Cultural Week.
President of the Vietnamese Student Association, Yu-Chui Fan, says that the Vietnamese Cultural Week has garnered more and more attention and support, so the activities are especially grand.
