The event was co-chaired by Gary Oba, the Kaohsiung Branch Chief of American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), Hong-Sen Yan, NCKU Executive Vice President, and Wen-Zhen Hsieh, Director of the NCKU Art Center.

Vice President Yan said, “Sport is very important, and to become a first-class university, a healthy physique is required.”

AIT Kaohsiung Branch Chief, Gary Oba, echoes this sentiment, going further to say that sport competitions can enhance a country’s national literacy, and that sport is an important aspect of American culture.

He also expressed his thanks to NCKU for extending the invitation to the NCKU on-campus run, stating that the event not only promotes healthy lifestyle, but also corresponds with the exhibition’s theme of ‘passionate and youthful’.

The exhibition not only introduces the origin of the event, but also describes in detail the rules of several sports, in hopes that, through understanding of the culture of sports, it will help the audience to better understand the USA.

Economic expert cum Director of NCKU Art Center, Wen-Zhen Hsieh, made the observation that sports will soon become an industry with many creative possibilities.

Indeed, the American Sports Exhibition can also be regarded as an example of the combination of sport culture and the innovative industry, as can be seen through the integration of university spirit in the designs of team logos, sportswear, and even the mascots.

The exhibition introduces the most popular of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), American football, basketball, ice hockey, water polo, lacrosse, and cheerleading, including the sports’ history, rules, and the schools which are famous for them.

According to the tour guide, Americans love sport, and regard it as an integral part of daily life. The Championships held by the NCAA has allowed American College Sports to become an exciting and passionate event.

The NCAA Championship includes 23 kinds of sport, and the desire to win and honor their schools, as well as the hope to become professional athletes has made the NCAA one of the main focuses of university students.
