NCKU girl student shines in basketball competition
Tainan, Taiwan, April 14, 2014
Linda Xu (許乃云) is like any other regular students who study in National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, but her game-winning three-pointers in a recent basketball game has made her story a good one to tell.
Linda is a senior at the Department of Foreign Language and Literature and she also serves as the head of the department’s girl basketball team.
Her team won the third place in a recent competition called Da Ying Bai (大英盃) which is the biggest basketball game for all the English majors in Taiwan.
Linda hit two three-pointers in the game and because of this move, the team was able to perform steadily and won the game at last. However, Linda didn’t have this amazing performance four years ago.
Linda said that before college, she had little experience in playing basketball but things started to change after she promised her friends to join the freshman basketball competition.
For friendship’s sake, she decided to stay in the team and play with her friends after the competition. She didn’t perform well at first, in fact, she didn’t even know whether she will improve or not.
Linda remembered the day when one of the team members told her that maybe is better for her not to play forward. “What she says really motivate myself to work harder on my training” said Linda.
After that, she works harder than any group members. When she is senior, she was nominated as the team leader. “I decided to inject something fresh in the training; I want the relationship between our members become closer. I want everyone to think that our team is just like a family.” Linda smiled while she was having the interview.
Linda also said, no matter is training or competition, the most enjoyable thing is the process. You will grow up and learn not to give up easily during the process.
While being asked about how she feels after the great performance, Linda replied in a humor way, “I think I can retire from the team now. I have no regret for my college life.”
