‘Nature’ publishing group editor to give a talk at NCKU - Noodls

Ed Gerstner, the executive editor of Nature Communications in China, will give a talk at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, on March 17, to share his experience in editing and ideas about the recent developments in publishing and the global trend towards making science more open.

In his talk, Gerstner will give some examples that editors at Nature Publishing Group are doing to help scientists distribute their papers — and even their data — to the widest audience possible.

Gerstner who joined Nature Publishing Group in 2002 as an editor has handled a broad range of physical science manuscripts, and is now responsible for forging closer links with the Chinese research community from Nature Communications' Shanghai office.

He obtained his PhD in physics from the University of Sydney in 1997, and spent five years in research at the Universities of Sydney, Cambridge and Surrey, and at Philips Research Laboratories in Redhill.

The talk on March 17 at NCKU Library Conference Center will be centered on the question of how to get published in Nature and its sister journals.

Gerstner will also cover questions like what we look for in the papers that we consider for publication; the mechanics of how submissions are handled; how to decide if your paper could be for us; how to prepare a submission; and what to do when you think we (or our referees) have got a decision wrong.
