Hebei delegation visits NCKU to greet with Chinese students in Taiwan

A delegation of 31 officials of China’s Hebei Province led by Mr. Shengye Zang visited National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, December 30, 2013, and greeted Chinese students at the university.

While identifying NCKU as an internationally recognized top-class university, Mr. Zang hopes to collaborate with NCKU to enhance higher education standards in Hebei Province. He also advised Chinese students to cherish study opportunities in NCKU.

Mr. Shengye Zang, the Hebei-Taiwan Bilateral Economic and Cultural Association Chairman as well as the secretary of Hebei Province Discipline Inspection Commission, visited NCKU with the hope of learning from NCKU and laying the collaboration foundations in order to assist in the development of higher education standards in Hebei Province.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zang also proposed the exchange of students and teachers from both Hebei Province and NCKU as well as cooperation in scientific research during the visit.

The proposals were also regarded highly by President Hwung, who replied with the recommendation of signing a memorandum of understanding before implementing these proposals.

Mr. Zang revealed, according to statistics, Hebei occupies 20 percent of the education sector in China with 113 universities located in the province.

Education is also given priority by Hebei Province as fund allocation for education alone occupies 18 percent of the annual expenditure of the province, thus stressing the importance of talent cultivation.

Mr. Zang said that talent cultivation is currently an important consideration in Hebei Province because the hope of a race is inheritance, where inheritance is carried through education.

Hebei Province Department of Education Director Jiaomin Liu acknowledged NCKU as a prestigious university and revealed the intention to cooperate with NCKU in various aspects such as inviting NCKU to set up school in Hebei with all the necessary resources such as funds, land and student recruitment procedures provided by Hebei Province.

“There are 11 national key universities in Hebei Province and we could pick a few out of these universities to collaborate with NCKU before establishing NCKU Hebei Province School,” Mr. Liu proposed while further explaining that high-achieving high school students will be admitted into the campus whereas NCKU can send its professors to teach there.

Mr. Liu added, the proposal aims to bring in NCKU’s advanced education philosophies and experience in talent cultivation and management to Hebei Province in view of improving higher education standards in Hebei Province, activate the development of higher education in Hebei Province and nurturing more outstanding talents which support economic and societal development in the province.

After the visit to President Hwung’s office, the delegation visited NCKU’s Green Magic School and also attended a meet-and-greet lunch session with Mainland Chinese students in NCKU.

Mr. Zang advised the students to take advantage of the learning experience in NCKU in order to build a good foundation for their own future.
