Taiwan’s NCKU president visits Turkey’s universities to boost up academic cooperation
Tainan, Taiwan, September 5, 2013
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) President Hwung-Hweng Hwung is currently on an official tour to Turkey, where he schedules to visit 5 universities including İnönü University, Bilkent University, Hacettepe University, Middle East Technical University (METU), and Ankara University.
The academic cooperation is expected to be solidified by signing the MOUs with universities in Turkey during the 9-day visit.
A 10-member delegation led by President Hwung departure August 31 from Taiwan and arrived at Malatya, Turkey on September 1 to start off the visit.
In addition to the visit of 5 universities, the NCKU delegation will meet up with Melih Gökçek, the mayor of Ankara, Salih Celik, Deputy Undersecretary, Ministry of National Education, Turkey, and James C.H. Chen, Taiwanese Ambassador to Ankara, Representative of Taipei Economic and Cultural Mission.
The first stop for the NCKU delegation is İnönü University and Malatya Inonu University Turgut Ozal Medical Center which earned great reputation in the liver transportation both in Europe and in the world.
The visit is expecting to promote the cooperation between two universities in the field of liver transplant research, according to the delegation who points out NCKU with its Hospital and Medical College has occupied a respectable position in Taiwan.
The agreements on student exchange and academic cooperation will be signed between NCKU and METU on September 4.
Since 2014, NCKU and METU have officially launched bilateral exchange among the teachers and students in terms of academic research and cultural understanding.
METU President Dr. Ahmet ACAR visited NCKU in April 2012 and during his visit to Taiwan, he had a fruitful conversation with NCKU President Hwung and agreed to carry out further cooperation between two universities.
