NCKU research team wins Macronix Golden Silicon Award
Tainan, Taiwan, August 8, 2013
A research team led by Dr. Kuen-Jong Lee from the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, has won the design award in the competition for the 13th Macronix Golden Silicon Awards with their novel design of SoC Debug Platform, the university revealed recently.
Macronix Golden Silicon Award is one of the best national semiconductor design competition, provided by Macronix International Co., Ltd., a leading integrated device manufacturer in the Non-Volatile Memory (NVM) market.
Prof. Lee’s research team proposed a platform allows designers to debug embedded processors, buses, IP cores, as well as the application programs being developed.
It can be used at various designs and manufacturing stages including component development, hardware/software co-design, system prototyping, and post-silicon debugging, according to Prof. Lee.
He also said that three major mechanisms are integrated into this platform, namely a software debug mechanism for multi-core programming, an on-chip hardware debug mechanism for various hardware IPs, and a two-way cross trigger mechanism to synchronize the debug processes of software and hardware.
Prof. Lee’s research interests are related to Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Design and Testing, VLSI Computer-Aided Design, and Computer Algorithms.
Macronix established in 1989 in the Science Park, Hsinchu, Taiwan, organized the first "Macronix Golden Silicon Award – The Semiconductor Design and Application Competition" event in 2000 to encourage innovative R&D among university and graduate students.
Macronix continues to hold this competition with assistance from the Macronix Education Foundation to foster excellence in young people today.
In the past years, more than 8,000 teachers and students have participated in this annual event.
