NCKU creative industries design students showcase their experiment on music and performing art

A total of 14 international students from 8 countries including Indonesia, Russia, Czech, Salvador, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Poland to present their ideas about music and performing art industries in a recent event hosted by the Institute of Creative Industries Design (ICID) at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan.
The International Creative Industries Day is an annual event organized by the institute with an aim to foster interaction between local and international students and to exchange research insights of students and researchers from different disciplines and countries, according to Feng-Tyan Lin, Dean of the College of Planning and Design.
The student-driven event includes industry investigation presentations, key note speeches and site-specific workshops.
The event is coming to the 4th this year with the theme on “Music and Performing Art.” Under the topic “Sound meets movement,” a series of music and performing art industries related activities were raised in May 21-22.
One of the invited speakers, Prof. Chor Guan Ng., an invigorating music composer and sound designer, has the students to collect a variety of sounds around NCKU campus and have them integrated into a completed melody.
Prof. Wen-Jinn Luo, performer of Scarecrow Contemporary Dance Company (SCDC) in Taiwan, leads the students to explore their body language.
The students divided into 4 groups experiment their creative work at the four chosen site around the campus - the Banyan Tree Park, Cheng Kung Lake, Urban Planning Department, Industrial Design Department.
The students use their body language at one of the four specific sites. The body movements are designed according with the chosen site and the music that are designed in the first phase of the workshop.
The final outcome of the workshop set up to a short performance with the advisement from ICID faculty and two invited professions.
