NCKU hosts 2013 Jade Mountain Forum on Sustainable Environment
Tainan, Taiwan, April 24, 2013
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, held the 2012 Jade Mountain Forum on Sustainable Environment April 22-23 to discuss the environmental issues including water quality research, soil pollution remediation, and waste recycling.
Speakers from Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam and Taiwan presented the latest research on 4 main topics: Research and Cooperation of Global Water Quality, Control of Persistent Pollutants, Rare Metals Resource Recycling Skills, and Academia-Industry Collaboration Forum.
Dr. Juu-En Chang, professor of Department of Environmental Engineering , on behalf of Sustainable Environment Research Laboratories (SERL), welcomed the participants, “ NCKU SERL has established to be a university-class research institute and the Global Water Quality Research Centre is jointly founded this year by NCKU, China Steel Corporation group and the South Australian Water Corporation through its research provider the Australia Water Quality Centre.”
Greater attention to sustainable development of Planet Earth was intended to be raised by the hosting of the forum, according to Dr. Chang.
A total of 35 research papers presented in the forum and two keynote speeches held in the first-day forum.
Prof. Tung Fung, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Yee Leung, Director of the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), gave a talk on Building a Sustainable Campus and Environment, Energy and Sustainability Research at CUHK.
Vietnam’s Hochiminh City University of Technology Prof. Phan Dinh Tuan gave a talk on Hydrothermal Treatment of Domestic Solid Wastes for Fuel.
