Taiwan UAV design competition and exhibition kicks off at NCKU

2013 Taiwan Innovative Unmanned Aircraft Design Competition and exhibition kicked off at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, Mar. 15, with over 90 teams from Taiwan, Singapore, China and Hong Kong participating in the competition, displaying the latest innovation in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The exhibition and review before the official competition held at the lawn in front of the Department Aeronautics and Astronautics (DAA), NCKU, where 10 unmanned aircrafts with the latest design performed their flight mission. Crowds are drawn and acclaimed by the demonstration of UAV’s versatility in the sunny sky.

NCKU Vice President Chih-Chin Ho attended the opening ceremony and on behalf of NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung welcomed the guests, “We’re happy to see the UAV experts and players around the world gathered to exchange their experience in UAV technology and design.”

He added, “Thanks to the dedication of Prof. Wei-Hsiang Lai and the efforts of DAA, NCKU had earned the international acknowledge in aeronautical technology.”

Prof. Chin-Hsiang Cheng, Chairman of DAA, said that the 3-day event from Mar. 15 to 17 included an exhibition, a forum and a flying competition in which the entrants are graded on three items-payload weights, technical reports and manufacturing qualities.

The top four teams are presented the first- to fourth-place awards. The other teams of top 60% are presented honorable mention awards. Based on scores of individual events, the top three teams are presented Maximum-Load Award, Best-Report Award, and Best-Technique Award.
