New members joint Cheng-Kung Club to boost up academia-industry collaboration in southern Taiwan

More partners have joined the Cheng-Kung Club, including 20 universities, 1 research institution and 42 scholars, further expanding the R&D capability and strengthening the academia-industry line-up, announced National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Taiwan, Jan 4.
The Cheng-Kung Club, established in Oct. 2012, has accessed to the varsity’s strong team of academia-industry collaboration which comprised 30 professors as its foundation to recruit more new members.
This addition of news members has allowed the club to realize the industrialization of R&D capability in university and develop the academia-industry collaboration platform in the southern Taiwan region.
NCKU Research and Services Headquarters Director Prof Mi-Ching Tsai said that resource integration requires a mechanism, where the Cheng-Kung Club uses NCKU as the base to contact neighboring universities and regional industries and build an interaction platform for cooperation.
He said, the club also utilizes the intellectual property management capability of the NCKU Technology Transfer and Business Incubation Center and international technology marketing by NCKU alumni to promote the growth and efficiency of surrounding industries in Tainan, creating a new collaboration model based on interdisciplinary efforts.
Southern Taiwan Science Park (STSP) Deputy Director Wei-Cheng Lin explained that by establishing the Cheng-Kung Club, the biggest beneficiaries are the manufacturers and companies at STSP, hence they have high future expectations for the Cheng-Kung Club.
He added that in general, the key towards industrial development is talent, creativity and innovation.
He is firmly convinced that under the management of Professor Mi-Ching Tsai and the outstanding leadership of NCKU President Hwung-Hweng Hwung, the NCKU Club can quickly integrate inter-disciplinary resources in order to make great contributions to the industrial development of Taiwan.
The Cheng-Kung Club organized by NCKU starts with the fundamental members including STSP Director Chun-Wei Chen, Chieftek Precision Co. Ltd. Chairwoman Li-Fen Chen, AsiaGen Corporation Director Chin-Sheng Chou and 20 other executives of companies in Taiwan.
The club also attracted 30 top scholars who engage in interdisciplinary research and help build the foundation of the platform for the academia-industry collaboration in the southern region of Taiwan.
Such a move demonstrated NCKU’s ambition of converting academic research capability into the industrial development in the Southern Taiwan region, hence reviving Taiwan’s ambition of establishing industrial economy.
The mission of the club is to promote interaction between industries and the academic world, realizing the industrialization of research outcome, activate regional economic development, according to Director Tsai.
He pointed out that the medical field is the starting point for this effort and future development fields would also include biotechnology, precision machinery, semiconductors, optoelectronics, telecommunications and so on.
The number of club members now exceeds 70 scholars, where each member has high research capabilities, demonstrating strong overall research power of the club.
