A group of students from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, voluntarily hosted a fund-raising event for the children at An-Ren Home, a Catholic school of deprived children, for 2 weeks from Dec. 25, 2012 to Jan. 8, 2013.

The event was organized by a total of 20 students who took a general education course called “The Study of Success” taught by Dr. Bruce Cheng, a professor of Institute of Physical Education, Health and Leisure Studies, NCKU.

The students initiated the fund-raising by themselves with a charity care for the disadvantaged children, according to the university.

Prof. Cheng praised the students’ voluntary efforts to raise money for the children in need and welcomed the support from people who are interested in offering help or donate to the An-Ren Home at Chiayi County.

The purpose of the event is to allow academy students to get involved in the social work and raise funds for An-Ren Home in the form of a student-run event, according to Cheng who had inspired the students to put the theory of success into practice by offering charity work.

Knowing from news coverage about the An-Ren Home’s shortage in raising money for house-building, the students decided to dedicate themselves to help out by hosting a fund-raising event at NCKU.

The students were divided into 2 teams holding the donation boxes travelling around the campuses of NCKU every day for 2 weeks and so far they have collected over NT$10,000 and the money will go to An-Ren Home, Jan.8.
