73 NCKU teams lost 215.3 kilogram in weight-loss competition

A total of 219 students and staff from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), southern Taiwan, had participated in competition-driven weight-loss programs managed by the Health Center (HC), NCKU to raise the awareness of health management in the campus.
The program running for one and half months, from Oct. 1 to Nov. 18, had attracted 73 teams, 3 people to form a team, to compete for the first place.
Most of the participants found joining the competition useful and some even said, “it had changed the personal lifestyle and improved the health condition.”
The ranking of the competition was determined by the record of the participants’ daily health journal via Cloud Computing and the weekly journal by checking up the physical condition in the HC periodically, according to Miss Song from HC.
Song said that in the beginning, 77 participants were overweight; through involving in the competition, they lost 215.3 kilograms in total and 1.7 kilogram per person in average.
She said, 219 students attended the game and 123 participants stuck with it to the end.
The winning team is called “Thin to Ultimate” and the total weight lost is 20.2 kilograms. The team captain, Yi-Wen Chen, a student from the Department of Transportation and Communication Management Science, said that the winning secret lies in the will power and self discipline.
Chen shares their experience, “Exercising daily and regularly, eating less, and avoiding late night snack were the keys to a successful weight-loss plan.”
His teammate Jie-Yu Chang said that from now on she can fit in whatever the clothes she likes.
The winner is Yi-Xiang Hsu, a graduate student from the Department of Chemical Engineering, who had lost 11 kilograms in total. He was overweight by 130 kilogram before he participated into the program.
Determined to win the first prize, Hsu made a habit of running every morning to lost weight and eventually, he lost 11 kilograms personally and help his team succeed in reaching second place with 18.9 kilograms.
Guan-Wen Chen, the leader of the third winning team, lost 5.9 kilograms personally, saying that the field at Tzu Chiang Campus had been his most-visit place these days.
Chen lost weight by running 8 loops of the field around the campus per day and set up a personal goal to lose one kilogram a week, successfully winning the third place for the team.
